STREET BEAT

Dropped by another new advertiser's location this night, the Hellfire Cafe. Boy, this place was cookin'. On stage was our old friend James Rivera, performing with his new Black Sabbath tribute band, Black Mountain. These guys were sounding real good as they performed some of our favorite Sabbath songs like "War Pigs," "Fairies Wear Boots," "Snowblind," and "Children Of The Grave. Wow, James sounded better than ever, and the rest of the band stayed as close to script as they could sounding a helluva like the original Black Sabbath. Man, these guys rocked. You need to check out The Hellfire Cafe. They tell us that they're going to be brining in a lot of great entertainment like this in the future. Rock On! This is definitely going to be one of our favorites places to go to to party!!

The Hellcat Cafe is Magnolia Park's only rock and roll pub! There you'll hear nonstop classic and 80's music. Friday nights have free pool all-night and domestic beer buckets. We dropped by another of our new advertisers this night, Wildcatter's 2, to visit an old friend, Rick Lee. Rick has been playing the "Blues" around Houston now for well over 30 years. He's best known as "The Chinese Bluesman." In fact, he even has a song about that as well. Rick's performance with his band, The Nightowls, was a lot of fun tonight. Well, to tell you the truth, he's always a lot of fun. Besides playing guitar, he also lends his own special tricks to his performance, like playing the guitar behind his head, and even using his tongue as a guitar pick. No doubt Jimi Hendrix was one of his inspirations. Rick is definitely one of Houston's finer musicians. He's also been hosting the Jam over at The Hideaway for about 17 years now. He definitely stays pretty busy. We're sure glad we stopped by Wildcatter's tonight. We even got an added treat. Musician, David Watkins joined Rick, performing on bass guitar, and we've got it all on film. Just go to HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net and you can start watching them now. David was a lot of fun too. It was great to see him on stage again. Check 'em out now.

Wildcatter 2 Sports Bar is Alief's best kept secret! They are at 12337 Bissonet St. in Houston. They've got the game on TV, drink specials, and live music. Nov. 24th. For more info and upcoming events, go to www.wildcatter2sportsbar.com or call 281-933-9700.

Hey look, it's Janice Spivey and The Bad Boys at the Alief Pub. We dropped by The Alief Pub when we heard they were going to be there. These folks perform a smooth blend of R&B and Blues and do a great job at it. As expected, Janice and the crew put on a splendid show and sounded better than ever. It was just what we expected. The Alief Pub is your new spot in Alief to find great live music. This month they're bringing in Hit 'N' Run, so we're probably going to be going to be going by there again. We hope to see you there.

We went over to one of our new advertisers, Vollie Ray's to check out one of his acts this night. On stage they were presenting Mechanix. Mechanix specializes in your favorite Classic Rock songs from the 80s. In fact, they started out in the 80s, broke up and now they've reformed again and they're performing all over the Houston area. While we were there, they were churning out classics, like "Jessie's Girl," "I Want You To Want Me," "Billie Jean," and a slew of others. They had a pretty wide repertoire and sounded pretty good this evening. We managed to record a couple of videos of their performance this night for you to check out on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net. Just sit back and you can start watching them now. They might be an act you'd like to see in person. Here they are performing "Sweet Chid Of Mine" by Guns 'N' Roses and "Seperate Ways" by Journey.

Congratulations goes out to Mike and Donnarie Armstrong and the staff at Cruiser's Ice House in Santa Fe on the Grand Re-Opening of Cruiser's. Cruiser's was hit badly by Hurricane Harvey and took on about 4 feet of water throughout the club. After nearly 6 or 7 weeks worth of remodeling, we're happy to report that Cruiser's Ice House is back open again. Here is a picture of Mike Armstrong, owner of Cruiser's and his merry band of bartenders and waitresses.

Cruiser's Ice House is back!! They may have taken a hit from Harvey, but it wasn't enough to keep this biker bar down! They thank the community and you for the support. The Santa Fe spot never has a cover for its live music. This month is no exception, with the Friday acoustic jam hosted by Billy Bourbon from 8pm-midnight, and then Saturday live music like Mister Kicks Sat. Nov. 4th, The Heart Stoppers Sat. Nov. 18th, and Nite Wave Sat. Nov. 25th. The Sunday Blues jam is hosted by Ben Herrington and it is from 4pm-8pm. Swing by Cruiser's, at 9002 FM 2004 and check out more at www.cruiserstx.com.

We went out to the Pub Fountains for the Metallica tribute, Masters of Puppets. Masters of Puppets is rated as the #1 Metallica Tribute in the world. It is even endorsed by Metallica themselves. The club was packed this night and it's no wonder, there are a lot of Metallica fans in Houston. They just couldn't get enough of the band. There were cheers after every song. The band performed for almost an hour and a half. We certainly had a great time there. We hope that we might be able to see them again. They certainly did put on a good show. We've got two videos from the show to share with you, so if you're a Metallica fan, you're definitely going to have to see these two videos. Here's another couple of videos you can start watching now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television at http://www.houstonmusicnews.net.

One of our new advertisers is a club called The Americana, which is located on Bingle in Spring Branch. This great club offers up some of the best in local original entertainment every week. This night when we dropped by it was the band Mystery Loves Company. At least part of the band. For this show they scaled it down to just three of them members to showcase some of their great new songs that they have coming out on their new album. The core of the band is comprised of Maddy, a conservatory-trained cellist with a highly technical musical background, and Carlos, a self-taught songwriter from Venezuela. They met at an open mic where Carlos was testing out new material. Maddy was performing with a friend as a lark, but her virtuosic ability on the cello was not lost on Carlos. He engaged her at once with the proposition of collaborating on original music. Almost immediately, the two struck upon a mystifying sound, rich with natural acoustics and laced with deeply felt sentiments regarding human struggle, safety, worth and equality. So far they have released a 3-song EP and are currently working on a new album. Their show tonight at The Americana was a great eye-opener and the new songs they performed were nothing short of spectacular. We have a couple of videos of them at The Americana for you to check out right now on HMNTV - so try them out and let us know what you think.

This Thursday night at The Ashford Pub it was singer/songwriter's night and as usual, they had a lot of good talent performing there. On keyboards and vocals was Angie Ruth and Jennifer Shelton (pictured at left). Both of them sounded real good. Angie was exceptionally good on keyboards, and Jennifer sounded great on vocals. She told us that it was her first time to do this in public, but she sounded like a pro. They did a great version of "Killing Me Softly." Also performing this night was guitarist Mike Pinch (pictured below). Mike performed a cool version of Dylan's "Knockin' On Heaven's Door," and then followed it up with Bob Seger's "Turn The Page." He sounded just fine and was pretty good on guitar. If you have some songs that you want to sing or some new material you want to try out, drop by The Ashford Pub any thursday night. When it comes to the sounds of Classic Rock, nothing beats the band Skyrocket. This Austin-based band performed this night at Fitzgerald's and put on a stellar show, as usual. Whenever we hear that they're performing at Fitzgerald's, we try to get down there and catch a few of he songs. Tonight's show was certainly a lot of fun and the whole room was filled with people dancing. From Electric Light Orchestra to Rick Springfield to The Human League to The Cars, Skyrocket kept performing one hit after another to the delight of the crowd there. In addition to that they also performed some of their own original songs as well, which are always received well by their audiences. It was certainly one of the best dance party's we went to this past month. For those of you who missed their show, don't fret, Skyrocket will be back at Fitzgerald's again this month. Just check out the Fitzgerald's ad in Music News. Here they are performing "Let's Go!" by The Cars and "Don't You Want Me Baby." by The Human League. We dropped by The Acadia Bar to see Winter's End this Friday Night. As usual, the band was sounding great. These 5 guys really care about their music and do the best to make sure that the clubgoer gets his money's worth. I can't say that I've ever seen them do a bad show. From bands like Ratt to Triumph to Journey, they have a pretty varied repertoire and will always be playing something you like. Tonight's show was full of a lot of energy and they were really rockin'. As expected, we have a couple of videos to share with you right now on HMNTV - Houston Music News Television, so you can start watching them perform "Any Way You Want It" by Journey and "Youth Gone Wild" by Skid Row.

I went and saw one of my favorite Blues musicians this past month at Katie's in Bacliff. It's Mark May of course. Mark was sounding real good with that new Les Paul he was playing. It really complimented the sound that Billy Wells was turning out on his Flying V. On sax was Sax Demon Eric Demmer. Between the three of them and their hot rhythm section, they really sounded great. It's always a lot of fun listening to Mark. He really has some tasty licks, not to mention some great original songs to share. I really liked their take on "Tobacco Road" and "Born Under A Bad Sign." If you get the chance, make sure you see Mark. In fact, one step further than that is to be able to Jam with Mark. Once every 6 weeks or so, he hosts the Jam at Katies, so if you want to play with the best, keep your eye on their ad and come play with Mark next time he hosts the Jam.

The Scout Bar had a cool act there when we dropped by this evening. Normally the music there is a bit heavy, but this night, it was definitely something different. On stage was the Johnny Cash tribute, Cash'd Out. Let me tell you, this was a great show. Lead singer Douglas Benson sounded just like Johnny Cash. Hell, he even looked a bit like Johnny. I swear, if you closed your eyes and listened, you'd swear it was Johnny singing. At any rate, the audience there were devout Johnny Cash fans and they loved the hell out of this performance. We definitely had a great time listening to this act, and we hope to see them again. Remember, Cash'd Out - you'll want to see these guys.

One of our favorite performers is Outlaw Lynn. We dropped by The Sundown Saloon this Saturday night to visit him. Here's another musician that really cares about what he's doing. There's never a dull moment with Lynn. He really knows how to please an audience. Competition for him was a little steep tonight, but he definitely held his own. He was up against the Houston Astros on the big screen TVs there, but still managed to hold the audience's attention. They all really liked what he was performing. He's was really mixing it up musically tonight. From ZZ Top to Tom Petty to Johnny Cash, he was turning out some really good tunes. Whether it's Country, Rock, or even the Blues, Lynn puts on a good show. Yeah, it was a real good show tonight. Of course, we knew it would be. Hell, anytime we go to the Sundown Saloon, we know we're going to be in for a good time. They present some of the best bands around there. We've got a treat for you, two more videos of Outlaw Lynn performing there. Here he is performing Stevie Ray Vaughan's "Little Sister". It was another night of 'heavy' music at the 19th Hole this night with Stonework. Yeah, these guys lean on the heavy side and definitely have a cool style of their own. When we heard that John Calderon was performing at The Big Easy, we headed down there to see him this night. Guitarist/vocalist/educator John Calderón is a freelance musician residing in Houston, Texas. He performed with multi-Grammy Award winning vocalist Al Jarreau. For the past 4 years John has toured the nation with Jarreau as well as central, southern and Eastern Europe, Scandinavia, and Southeast Asia. In addition to performing with Jarreau, John has worked nationally and abroad with Jazz pianist, Bobby Lyle and has also toured the U.S. with Grammy Award winning R&B vocalist Regina Belle, appearing at the New York Jazz Festival in Central Park and the Concord Jazz Festival in Oakland, California among others. His show tonight at The Big Easy was truly inspiring. Besides being a great guitarist, he is also a fine showman. He really kept the crowd there fixated on him. This is another good musician that you need to check out. Look for him to again play The Big Easy soon. When we heard that the Kendall Mason Band was going to be at The Concet Pub North, we hightailed it out there. These guys are fantastic and have a lot of great original material. This night they debuted one of their brand new original songs, "Monsters Under The Bed," and it was really good. It's a little different from some of the others songs they have, like "Mississippie Mud," but it really gives a new dimension to the band. Kendall sounded great, and the two Bill's were at the top of their game. Bill Nelson shredded on guitar, and although Bill Thompson was under the weather, you couldn't tell it by the way he was playing. He was doing a fabulous job. Good show.... I'm sure glad I made it out there. I had a great time.

The Concert Pub is your destination for the best entertainment on the Northside of Houston! Plus, at the boat next door, there's a full menu plus karaoke and trivia most Friday and Saturday nights. I Had The Chance To Go

by Jay Lambs Remy

I had the chance to go to the Marvel Vs DC body paint contest October 10th, which featured music played by DJ RED at Bar Bleu and an incredible night of art and form as models were painted for the contest. What a night it was. Amanda Marie Remy - model, musician, and Miami champion portrait artist and I came to the event dressed up in the theme of the event as Houston's Harley Quinn and MR JAY. We danced the night away with the models of the body paint contest such as Ironwoman, Mystic, and Lady Deadpool to the music DJ RED that was spinning. It even featured two remixes from In Wonderland. Legendary body paint artist Ricky Ortiz, who helped the community during the Hurricane Harvey event put it on to help Houston won as one of the top three winners. Way to go Pickle Rick! Major thanks to Chris Amez who puts on some incredible events. I highly recommend you attend one next time he has a event he is putting on.

I also went to the ReachDown Radio Ball on October 12th at Acadia to see Roots of Clay, a very talented band that blends reggae rock and soul. It was followed up by the iconic Dead Sets who are always your number one band to help you get in the mood to drink and jam out with. We love these guys! Also make sure to check out the promo videos that Tommy of Acadia puts together. They are kickass!

This past month I sat down with Houston's own Lil Tarus of Royal Prodigy and found out what it means to talk about "No Problems In Life," his album coming out this fall for you all. PreOrder is Nov 30th!! You can get his singles at http://www.soundcloud.com/liltarus. Lil TaRus has a style that is fresh and stylish. I had the chance to work with him more then a year ago, and I am happy to see that he is as always doing "beast mode." This Houston artist does hip hop and R&B. One of his tracks that is surely going to hit home, and also out of the park like the Houston Astro's, is "Why You Got To Do Me Like That". This song is his up and coming most highlighted work of musical art. It tells a story that a lot of individuals can connect with. The singing style is blended with smartly written hip-hop lyrics and is a masterpiece.

I had the chance to sit down and speak with the newly welcomed to Houston, Kalique (IFLOWZ) McMillian, a songwriter, publisher, director, & entertainment manager. He is the President of IFLOWZ ENT. CTXAnR@gmail.com and 254-393-6093. He Showed Me some of the music he has up his sleeve like the song "WAKE UP KILLEEN" you can find iflowz music at the http://Soundcloud.com/iflowz.

Next month will feature an article about Inspire productions, bootique costumes, and Bad Hatter In Wonderland and Jay Lambs Remy with Houston Music News at "truck or treat" on October 28th at the Conroe Heritage Amphitheater. I will be covering and performing at the event, so stay tuned for the full story in the next edition of Houston music news. It will rock you and so will the iconic pictures.

I had the chance to go by BFE ROCK CLUB in Houston Texas on many occasions this month for "Thursty Thursdays" for many nights of great music performances from acts such as Tysha Serenity, Sslc, YTR, Mesha P, Black Katt, Spliph Lewis, and many more.

Micajah is a phenomenal rock band that does some amazing family friendly and highly professional music. I highly recommend you see them play whenever you can. They performed this month at the Thursday events happening at BFE which are brought to you by Carlos Corleone Of Young twisted regime Jay Lambs Remy of Houston music news bootique costumes and the legendary venue Bfe Rock Club! Be sure to say hi to Frankie, Bill, Spencer and Shane. Mention my name and I might be there to snag a pic with you and the other great staff at BFE.

I had the chance to check out the "Midget Wrestling With Attitude" the took place on Sunday, October 22nd at the BFE Rock Club featuring music performances by Red Bay, Kyle Cousins, And Jon Turnbow! This epic night was filled with wrestling antics from Steve O, Baby Chucky, Mad Max, and many others from MWA. I even had the chance to hang out with Steve O as he told me about the highlights during their wrestling tour. The wrestling was accompanied by stellar music from Red Bay who rocked out a set with a couple great cover songs followed by Kyle Cousins who moves across the stage singing each note with each stride. Then Jon Turnbow played the songs "Beautiful Disaster," "No Place Like Home," and "Show Must Go On." Highlighting his vocals, this music artist has some upcoming music being recorded in various Houston recording studios. Here is a link to some more info on rock star Jon Turnbow. http://www.jamsource.net/homepages/home042017.html

This month's "Icons of Badassery" would like to honor Frank Aluotto of BFE Rock Club. This great Individual has been helping people put on events for the Houston greater area for many years. Music performers such as Motograter, Cowgirls From Hell, Mezzanine, Surrender Stella, Bad Hatter In Wonderland, Deadhorse and so many, many more just to name a few have come through and performed at the iconic BFE Rock Club. I have traveled the nation and seen many shows and performed at over 530 shows myself. Frankie of BFE Rock Club of Houston Texas is truly an icon and hero to us all. It is great to know such a dedicated heart here in Houston. The majority of bands I have worked with have all mentioned or played at BFE Rock Club because of Frankie. He truly is one of the pillars of the music community. It is with great honor to entitle Frank Aluotto, an Icon of Badassery! Thank you very much for all of your hard work.
